STEVE BROWNE
DEAN OF MARITIME TRANSPORTATION, LOGISTICS & MANAGEMENT, CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY MARITIME ACADEMY
Despite growing up amidst the cornfields of Iowa, Captain Steve Browne has spent much of his life aboard ships. His steps were first drawn to the sea when he was offered a Navy ROTC scholarship to Northwestern University, where he earned a BA in Computer Studies and a Masters of Engineering Management. After graduation, he spent eight years in the Navy and then jumped ship to the US Merchant Marine, serving, ultimately, as Master of the passenger ship MV Doulos.
After 19 years as Professor of Marine Transportation at the California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime), he is now the Dean of Maritime Transportation, Logistics & Management at the Academy. He is a published author and conference speaker, volunteers at a local food pantry, and enjoys hiking and camping with his wife and teenage daughter.
