“Being a ‘first’ has given me a unique perspective regarding women’s issues. Working with, leading, and managing a broad spectrum of socioeconomic, ethnicities, cultures, and religions has provided the ability to ‘see’, analyze, and provide recommendations for global, national, local-level problems.”

U. S. Navy

OFFICER, LIEUTENANT COMMANDER, RETIRED

Christina St. Clare is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, with a bachelor’s degree in physical science. She is a retired 20-year career Naval Officer and pioneer as the first woman tactical aircraft, F-14 Tomcat Radar Intercept Officer. She is the first woman of color and one of the first three women to integrate Naval Aviation’s Tactical Air (TACAIR) community, designated as a mission commander, tactical air-to-air and air-to-ground mission planner, enemy air-to-air weapons subject matter expert and participation as enemy air forces for simulated enemy air-to-air combat training.

During her career, Christina was assigned a variety of duties as a Naval Officer; leading, coaching, and mentoring hundreds of personnel. Her online gaming persona is a clan founder and online gaming forum administrator, actively leading, coaching and mentoring her gaming peers and a multitude of young people within the online gaming community. Christina’s previous career and interests have drawn her to like-minded individuals wanting to share their knowledge, career, and life experiences with the next generation of leaders as they learn about and explore the opportunities involvement with STEM provides.

HOW TO BECOME ATHENIAN

STEM Firsts

The first woman F-14 Tomcat Radar Intercept Officer and Catapult & Arresting Gear Officer which involved in-depth knowledge of steam and hydraulic systems on the aircraft carrier, USS Lincoln.

Leadership

Athena Racing is an organization I wish I had access to as a young girl. STEM as a whole was never emphasized where and when I grew up. The career choices available to young women in the 80’s was hinder by the lack of knowledge and subsequent lack of education in those subjects.
